Inspector Martin did get back to me today and I do appreciate that she did. She said that she searched through the computer and nothing turned up. Martin basically stated that she could not help me any further and then referred me to Karen in another department. Some place that stores hard files. Martin did say that the file could have been discarded because Gigi had been found but had requested that her mom and friends not be notified as to her whereabouts.
As you could imagine, I guaranteed Martin that this would not have been the case, not with Gigi. Martin then asked me how I would know this and what my relationship to Gigi was. To which I said, I had once been involved with Gigi and that we were always very close friends. But that even if Gigi and I were strangers, once I had heard of Gigi and what happened to her, I would still be making the same inquires about Gigi. I don't think she believed me, not that I care. Karen basically repeated to me what Martin had said. Which was, after ten years if a missing persons case is not solved the San Francisco Police Department throws away the case file because they don't have room to keep files past ten years. The only files that are kept are criminal files. To which I responded with, so a person who is abducted and goes missing isn't worth making space for? So that there can be some kind of proof that the person reported missing is still missing. Or so that there is proof that a missing persons report was filed so that one can follow the progression of the case. To be fair here, Karen did say that she does not make the policy and that she does not agree with it. That she was sorry, but there was nothing more that she could do or that she could help me with. I then said, that if President Bush's daughter went missing and the case was not solved after ten years, that I could guarantee that the case file would not be purged, Karen agreed saying, of course because she's the presidents daughter.
We went in a few circles and finally I just said thank you and good-bye. I wrote President Bush at the white house and the Mayor of San Francisco. I will post their response once its received.
